Description

Peru-Bolivia 2000-2011 combines ALL of the American Alpine Journal‘s reports from Peru and Bolivia in the AAJ years 2000-2011 (reflecting new routes from 1999 to 2010). This is the first-ever all-digital “country edition” from the archives of the AAJ. As such, there are a few rough edges in the styling of these PDF pages and must be considered a “beta” edition. But the content is all here and if you’re considering a climbing trip to these countries, this is a must-have edition.

The feature articles are those stories that made the front of the AAJ. These are climbs that the editors considered among the world’s most significant ascents of the year. These are listed below. But the heart of this edition is all the shorter reports from every range in these countries.

Siula Chico: The first ascent of a huge ice wall in the Cordillera Huayhuash of Peru. By Jordi Corominas (Feature 2008)

Jirishanca: A climbing history of the Hummingbird Peak’s southeast face, Peru. By Jeremy Frimer (Feature 2004)

Fear & Loathing: Alpine-style suffering on Jirishanca’s great southeast face. By Nick Bullock (Feature 2004)

Tambo, Churros Y Amigos: One crazy adventure on the southeast face of Jirishanca. By Didier Jourdain (Feature 2004)

Shall We Take A Drill? The riddle of style in the Cordillera Blanca. By Leo Houlding (Feature 2001)

Mountain ranges (cordilleras) included in this edition:

Peru:  Apolobamba, Blanca, Carabaya, Chaupijanca, Chimchey, Huallanca, Huayhuash, Vilcanota, Central, Oriental, Raura, Vilcabamba, Yauyos.

Bolivia: Ancohuma, Apolobamba, Condoriri, Khuchu Mocoya Valley, Quimsa Cruz, Real, Taruca Umana Valleys.
